Everyone can feel low, tired or unmotivated from time to time. When these states last and begin to affect daily life, relationships and work, opening a space to talk can help.
How can it be recognised?
Depressive experiences can change how a person sees themselves and their surroundings:
- A lasting sense of emptiness or lack of interest
- Not enjoying things that were once enjoyable
- Low energy, changes in sleep and appetite
- Thoughts of guilt, worthlessness or inadequacy
These signs alone do not amount to a diagnosis. What you are experiencing, and what it means, is explored together in the sessions.
In the psychodynamic approach
This approach tries to understand the losses, relationship experiences and self-directed thoughts that may be linked to depressive feelings. The sessions offer a space to talk about what you feel and how it connects with your life experiences. The process differs from person to person, and no particular outcome is guaranteed.
Related difficulties
Feelings that often accompany depression include grief, a sense of worthlessness, anger and loneliness. Which of these is most prominent for you is discussed together in the first sessions.
Emergencies and psychiatric support
This service does not provide emergency care. If you have thoughts of harming yourself, call 112 (Turkey’s emergency number) or go to the nearest emergency department. If a medication assessment may be needed, you are referred to a psychiatrist.
