Dependence is a way of attaching to a substance, a behaviour or a relationship that a person keeps up despite their own wishes, and that affects their life. It can appear around alcohol, drugs, gambling or screens, and it can also appear as being excessively tied to another person emotionally.
In the psychodynamic approach
This approach treats dependence not only as a habit, but in connection with feelings a person finds hard to cope with, and with emptiness or needs for closeness in relationships. In the sessions we look together at what the dependence serves in your life, which feelings it accompanies, and which relationships it is linked to.
Other support
If alcohol or substance use is involved, medical follow-up or a psychiatrist’s assessment may be needed; in that case you are referred. This service does not provide emergency care. If there is a risk of harming yourself, call 112 (Turkey’s emergency number) or go to the nearest emergency department.
