Personality structure is a psychodynamic concept describing how a person’s way of perceiving and responding to themselves, others and relationships took shape during development. Rather than putting a label on someone, it aims to understand their inner world and relationship patterns.
What experiences can it relate to?
- Recurring difficulties in close relationships
- Periods when feelings shift intensely and quickly, and it is hard to understand oneself or others
- An unsteady sense of self, or a feeling of emptiness
- Moving back and forth between closeness and distance in relationships
These headings do not amount to a diagnosis. What you are experiencing, and what it means to you, is explored together in the sessions.
How do sessions work?
Psychodynamic sessions focus on the links between a person’s past and present, and on the patterns that appear within the therapeutic relationship itself. Each session lasts 45 minutes; the process varies from person to person, and no particular outcome is guaranteed.
