Trauma

Trauma is an umbrella term for the psychological impact that follows a sudden or prolonged distressing experience that overwhelms a person’s ability to cope. The same event does not affect everyone in the same way; how a person experienced it, and what support they had at the time, matter as much as the event itself.

How is trauma approached?

In the psychodynamic approach, trauma is not simply an event that stays in the past. The focus is on how the experience has shaped the way a person sees themselves, others and relationships. Sessions are not rushed; you decide how much to share and at what pace.

When might it be meaningful to seek support?

  • When the event continues to affect your daily life and relationships
  • When thinking or talking about it is very difficult
  • When you perceive yourself or your surroundings differently than before

These statements alone do not amount to a diagnosis. What you are experiencing, and what it means, is explored together in the sessions.

Important note

This service does not provide emergency care. If there is a risk of harming yourself, call 112 (Turkey’s emergency number) or go to the nearest emergency department. The process varies from person to person, and no particular outcome is guaranteed.
